From 1996 – 1999, Reef-World coordinatedinformation gathered by Thai dive operators as part of the Phuket Marine Biological Centre’s study on marine mammals.

This project was of a fixed duration when the PMBC was collecting anecdotal records of marine mammal sightings from local fishing communities. Several dive operators participated, however as it was quite rare to sight local marine mammals and divers found identification difficult, this project was replaced with the Whale Shark Sighting Network.
